Kids Can

Kids Can make a difference in the world!

Kids Can is an after school program for upper elementary aged kids. We do an 6 week section in the fall and another in the spring. The group is centered around the belief that kids are able to leave a positive mark on the world right now, not just when they “grow up.” As a group we start by discussing a scripture passage together. The kids are encouraged to think critically about the passage- What is it saying about who God is? What is it saying about who we are? How does it show us we can leave a positive impact on other and the larger world? From that conversation we discuss how we can put our faith into action by serving the community.

The story of David & Goliath has led to the kids thinking about how they can use their gifts and talents (like David’s stones) to make a positive difference in the lives of others through random acts of kindness. They explored the creation story and then made dog toys to donate to a local shelter for geriatric dogs. They engaged with the story of feeding the 5000 and then did a door to door food drive to collect canned goods for the local food bank, living out the scripture that my giving what we have to God it becomes enough.
